National Healthcare for the USA
by sammielee24 injust an fyi for anyone interested - there is a major drive on to push the bill forward for national healthcare in the usa.
you can sign the petition by going to http://www.onecarenow.org/.. it has gone through one part of the process last year and now the push is on to get it moved to the next level - it is backed by over 400 groups including the uaw i believe.
it is no longer if it happens, it is only a matter of time as to when it happens.

I would love to have great healthcare for everyone; who wouldn't? Ideally that would be great for all involved but it still comes down to one thing and unless I missed it, no one has answered this yet. From where/whom will the new money come? 3.3% from employers... to start. What if that isn't enough? Each website I've seen here is pro-national healthcare. Obviously biased.
I've read in this thread of people that are currently sick and can't rely on their medicare/medicaid to take care of them. Why in the world would you want to put more faith in a system run by the same inefficient party? Do you really think anything is going to change.
For any reason you give "for" National Health Care, simply replace NHC with National Education System or DMV. Why would it be any different since it will be not-for-profit in 15 years.
You want to fix healthcare, reform the Insurance carriers along with their lobbyists. Stop throwing money into a broken system.
p.s. Oh yeah, and I'm all for privatizing the school system as well. -

I thought, wow, this is really interesting, until I went to the site and saw that www.pnhp.org/ is Physicians for a National Health Program. Of course they're going to give a glowing review as they are the proponents of name sake. My doctor told me that it's very difficult to provide specialty services when he has to spend a considerable amount of time fighting for every nickel for any procedure that's not "normal."
From http://www.pnhp.org/nhibill/nhi_execsumm.html
Cost Containment Provisions/ Reimbursement
The National USNHI program will annually set reimbursement rates for physicians, health care providers, and negotiate prescription drug prices. The national office will provide an annual lump sum allotment to each existing Medicare region, which will then administer the program. Payment to health care providers include fee for service, and global budgets.
The conversion to a not-for- profit health care system will take place over a 15 year period, through the sale of U.S. treasury bonds; payment will not be made for loss of business profits, but only for real estate, buildings, and equipment.
Not-for-profit health care?!? Why in the world would someone almost kill themself to get into the best medical school just to get paid the same as a guy that went to Rocco's school of medicine and typewriter maintenance? Maybe we could make it as great as our education system...
Is Medicare the gleaming hope of our society? No, but it will be much better with this new "Socialist" program, which is run solely by the government. No thanks. -

Sorry but I haven't taken the time to figure out how to copy and paste in different colors... I'm tired and want to go to bed. ...I had a little drink about an hour ago.
Sorry I got off topic and ranted about welfare. My thought was, someone has to pay for all the wonderful national healthcare. I don't want to. Regardless, I don't think it will happen due to powerful insurance lobbyist. Do I like rising premiums? No. Do I like watching under-insured people get crappy healthcare? Of course not. Do I have an answer? No.
Do I believe that we should institute more social programs with more government? No. The government is the most inefficient system around.
I know we have to pay taxes but man it seems like over $90K per year is just not right. We pay school taxes while our kid goes to a private school. I don't like it and I'm working to change it.
My dream: less government and better "private, for profit" providers that have to work inside the capitalist system with true market forces. Insurance companies have too much power and the cost of entry is too large to let true capitalism work.
Good night to you all.
p.s. I never thought anyone was attacking me. Y'all are too nice for that. -

Wedding invitation
by riverofdeceit ini just received an invitation to my cousins wedding.
he is a jw, and used to be a close friend.
i am thinking about going to it, but i have a couple of issues.

RoD,
I think you'd get a lot out of sending a gift regardless of price, even better if it's something of yours that's personal that they would enjoy. As you said it's not like you dislike your cousin.
I know that I felt really good about sending a hand-made gift to my JW cousin that ditched my Catholic wedding. I did the right thing, not the JDub thing.
It's your cous's special day. They should have a great time; therefore I don't know if I would "no holes barred" them if they bug you. Let it go for the day.
Wishing you well, regardless what you choose. -

Sure, people have tough times. We have too but we pulled ourselves up. So, I should feel bad and continually feel sorry for people and give them stuff? When does it stop? I'm not a total selfish jerk but I also don't want to pay for other people's medicine or welfare for continual hardship.

I'll agree with Robdar. I want to keep the insurance, pretty damn good insurance, for my family. If others want to socialize medicine then great... but I don't want to pay for or be involved in it. We'll pay pennies for our kid to be born soon.
My only thought is regarding the "fortunate" part. I paid for 100% of my undergrad and spent 6 years, very long years, many Saturdays and many nights getting my MBA as did my wife. I feel our standing in this world has got nothing to do with "fortune" but more to do with us busting our humps, making wise decisions, foregoing bad investments and living well to have what we have.
For that group of people that have or had the means to make more of their life than they did but they "chose" not to. Too bad. Should I be penalized, or forced to pay for someone that hasn't paid as much attention to their health and savings as I have? I hope not.
I know it sounds wonderful for everyone to have great healthcare but it ain't free. What's going to pay for it? Taxes. Taxing whom? Those that pay more taxes are inherently paying more for this wonderful healthcare. The ones that pay more taxes are the ones that make more. We pay a lot of freakin' taxes.
I'd rather give as little money to the government as possible. Name one program that they run efficiently. -

Sadly, to them you are already dead. I was told so by my Dad years ago. He even went on to say, "I don't have a son." C'est la vie.
As so many others have said, they have to think of you this way. Your actions, or the choices you've made have forced them to forget you. I believe that they have had to forget you to dull the pain that comes from "losing" you to the world.
Whatever. You're as good as you think you are. I personally believe that it's none of my business what people think of me. I'm the only driver of my bus; if it wrecks I'm the one that wrecked it..

Gas Prices Today Are Cheaper Than Years Ago

Kid-A,
Did you create and assemble all the data in your chart? If not, from where did it come?
I, personally, say throw all of 'em out of Washington, but that ain't gonna happen. So, whenever I see data that is undocumented or no reference given I like to ask who compiled it. I can listen to Rush bash dems and libs all day but I very seldom, if ever, hear him say when they are right. Dems, on the other hand, all say the same thing, "Bush Lied." That's it.
I don't like high gas prices but I believe that it's cheaper to drive today that it has been in the past. There are myriad resources that tell us that our economy is rockin'! Can it all be a republican conspiracy?
I guess the two main questions are, Can a republican ever do anything right? Which dem has a bona fide plan for Iraq, other than "let's just leave"?
Respectfully,
SR

What the Bleep Do We Know!? Movie
by Sailor Ripley ini was just introduced to a new flick and thought that you might want to check it out.
i'll not give any review as i don't want to sway your interpretation.
i will say that i found it interesting and could be appropriate based on some postings i've read here.

Okay, okay I get it. I'm not a very good critic. So I'll be more critical of my friends' recommendations henceforth. He does work at a Wellness Center, which should have been my first tip-off.
I looked at it more through the scientific lens as I completely, albeit subconsciously, discredit and even delete any "Gawd" talk. There was some incongruence but I thought for the most part it was interesting in its explanation of biochem and how our emotions affect our daily lives.
No one mentioned anything about the really crappy acting.
I am changing my subject to, “Do not watch this movie.” Please watch “Eraserhead” instead.
